Prostate Cancer
Description:
Prostate cancer develops in the prostate gland, which is part of the male reproductive system. It is one of the most common cancers in men.
Symptoms:
Difficulty urinating, weak or interrupted urine flow, frequent urination (especially at night), blood in the urine or semen, erectile dysfunction, pain or discomfort in the pelvic area.
Risk Factors:
Age (risk increases with age), family history of prostate cancer, African American race, certain genetic mutations, high-fat diet, obesity, exposure to Agent Orange (Vietnam War veterans).
Prevention:
Healthy diet (low in saturated fat, high in fruits and vegetables), regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, routine prostate cancer screening (PSA blood test, digital rectal exam).
Treatment Options:
Active surveillance, surgery (radical prostatectomy), radiation therapy, hormone therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy.
